I have been creating interactive media and user interfaces for mobile and handheld devices, desktop applications and the web for almost twenty years.

My Not-So-Secret Powers

I have a special combination of skills which allow me not only to envision and craft stunning interfaces, but also to implement them. My ability to pair my experience in UI development with my experience in designing for a wide variety of platforms and technologies gives me the upper-hand to understand their capabilities and limitations and to work efficiently with developers.

History

I grew up in the Denver area and attended Colorado College where I got a B.A. in Comparative Literature with a minor in Contemporary French studies in 1998. During college, I found the seeds for my career path in an internship at the Chamber of Commerce in which I developed skills in web design and development.

After spending a semester in France, I got hooked on the cheese and wine there, and so I returned to live in Paris for a few years after graduation. While studying at the Sorbonne, I was able to support my Camembert habit by doing web and print design for a French start-up company.

Then, in 2001, I returned to the US and moved to Austin just as the tech bust started. Fortunately, amidst a world of lay-offs, I found an opportunity to design for web and print at The McCombs School of Business at UT Austin. The experience of seeing how the lives of students and faculty were directly touched by my design work sparked my interest in user-centered design, and so in 2005, I joined the UI/UX design agency called projekt202.

Learning the ropes of great UI design within projekt202’s Visual Design Group was rewarding as I was pushed to excel under high standards and worked my way up to a Senior UI Design position. In that role, I was responsible for leading complex design projects and I combined my visual design and illustration skills to create attractive and intuitive interfaces.

During that time, I developed a passion for touch-screen and mobile device design. I have most recently focused on challenges in that space, designing next-generation interfaces for tablets and smart phones for the consumer mobile team at Dell and leading iterative research and design for CompassLearning education apps.

Most Recent Experience

Last year, I accepted a position at Honeywell, working in the connected home space. I am currently enjoying the challenges of taking on lead design responsibilities and helping to establish a new mobile design studio.
