using quicksilver to upload from iphoto to flickr

Wednesday, May 16th, 2007

Ok, so occasionally I do a geeky post. So sue me. One random stranger found my last geeky post useful, so I figure I might as well spread knowledge when I find it useful. So here ’tis:

I was frustrated that the only way to upload from newer versions of iphoto to flickr was by buying an expensive little program, so I found out that you can do this pretty easily (with less functionality) by using the Quicksilver flickr extension. Here’s how I did it:

First open the Quicksilver plug-ins, choose All Plug-ins > Images > Flickr upload. Check the box to install the plug-in.

Having this installed allows you to upload through the following simple steps:
1) go into iphoto, select the images you want to upload
2) copy them (cmd-c, in iphoto or other programs)
3) invoke Quicksilver (cmd-Space on my configuration)
4) paste the item(s) (Cmd-v)
5) press Tab and write “flickr” for selecting the “upload to flickr” action. If you want to add tags press another time Tab for adding space-separated tags.

Voila! Easy as pie. This, plus not knowing I could empty the trash in iphoto, were the only things holding me back from using iphoto to organize my photos. And now I need no more convincing.
